I always knew that Mama Cass died at a young age, but I never knew how. I didn’t even think about it until I was listening to her today. So I looked it up.

“At the height of her solo career in 1974, Elliot performed two weeks of sold-out concerts at the London Palladium. She telephoned Michelle Phillips after the final concert on July 28, elated that she had received standing ovations each night. She then retired for the evening, and died in her sleep at age 32. Sources state her death was due to a heart attackIn fact Elliot had lost 80 pounds (36 kg) in the eight months before her death by fasting four days a week. Her fatal heart attack was most likely related to this extreme weight loss measure.”

Fanfuckingtastic. Congratulations, Society. You made this beautiful, talented woman feel like she had to go to unhealthy and extreme measures to fit your mold.

:(

this is especially important to note here because for many years now, the “rumored” cause of her death has always been referred to as her choking on a sandwich. As we can see, the truth is far from that myth.

Joni Mitchell - A Case of You

I remember that time you told me, you said,
Love is touching souls.
Surely you touched mine,
‘Cause part of you pours out of me, in these lines, from time to time.

Anna Kendrick | ‘Cups’ (New Radio Version)

With the success of the film ‘Pitch Perfect’ - rumor has it that Universal is  releasing a new radio version of the fan favorite ‘Cups’ by Anna Kendrick to radio stations. This new edit has a sound very similar to Phillip Phillip’s ‘Home’ or some of The Lumineer’s music. It’s still catchy as ever and will probably find even more success now that it has a proper radio edit.

The Oldest Written Melody in History c.1400 BC

This unique video, (unfortunately authentically recorded back in 2008 on quite possibily THE world’s oldest surviving webcam!), features my arrangement of the 3400 year old “Hurrian Hymn no.6”, which was discovered in Ugarit, ancient northern Canaan (now modern Syria) in the early 1950s, and was preserved for 3400 years on a clay tablet, written in the Cuneiform text of the ancient Hurrian language - it is THE oldest written song yet known! Respect, to the amazing ancient culture of Syria…السلام عليكم

Although about 29 musical texts were discovered at Ugarit, only this text, (text H6), was in a sufficient state of preservation to allow for modern academic musical reconstruction.

In short, the Cuneiform text clearly indicated specific names for lyre strings, and their respective musical intervals — a sort of “Guitar tablature”, for lyre!

Although discovered in modern day Syria, the Hurrians were not Syrian — they came from modern day Anatolia. The Hurrian Hymn actually dates to the very end of the Hurrian civilisation (c.1400BCE) . The Hurrian civilization dates back to at least 3000 BCE. It is an incredible thought, that just maybe, the musical texts found at Ugarit, preserved precious sacred Hurrian music which may have already been thousands of years old, prior to their inscription for posterity, on the clay tablets found at Ugarit!
